Jeff Monks is chairman of Harold Fisher (Plastics) Ltd, and also an active business angel.
Jeff became a chairman of his first Academy Group (20) in early 2000 and started the first Yorkshire Leaders' Forum soon after. In his role as chairman Jeff has coached CEOs through the pain barrier, through the process of grooming their business for sale and finally letting go, as well as through demanding family issues.
With a first class honours degree in mechanical engineering from London University and a fellowship in manufacturing management from Cranfield University, Jeff is a passionate believer in the importance of a strong manufacturing base for the UK economy. He was applying lean thinking and JIT before they became buzz-words, and even now gets a kick out of solving tricky engineering problems.
Jeff has worked for Dunlop, BOC, TRW, Dowty and Concentric Group in the UK and overseas, both in manufacturing roles, leading 600 people, and in general management roles, creating start-up businesses.
As an MD, Jeff was an all-rounder: comfortable developing strategies, travelling the world closing deals, establishing organisational structures, developing plans and implementing new technologies. He felt his achievements were greatest when leading a growing manufacturing company, making the best use of technology, and being able to develop a management team capable of breaking new ground.
